Jean Harrison Jensen, 93 years of age, born December 24, 1914 in Richfield, Utah, second child of Blanche Evelyn Bird and James Eugene Harrison, passed from this life on June 16, 2008 from complications of cancer at the home of her son, Barry Harrison Jensen, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by both parents, her brother Dan Harrison, her sister Edith Harrison Stein, and her husband Byron Brown Jensen. Surviving are her daughters Jeri Jensen (Glenn) Dixon of Blackfoot, Idaho; Jacque Jensen (Bob) Taylor of Salt Lake City; and her son Barry of Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; and her canine companion at the time of her passing, “Toto.” She has one brother, Dr. Jack T. Harrison, residing in Provo, Utah.
Jean resided in Provo for most of her life, having moved from Central Utah at a young age. She attended Provo High School and later was a student at Brigham Young University. She was employed by the telephone company, working in the Provo office, for a long period of time; later at Utah Valley Hospital in the administrative office; and at Crown Toyota in Orem. She was married to Byron in October 1936 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1963. She was an animal lover extraordinaire, having taken in many abused and homeless cats and dogs that seemed to always find their way to her home and either keeping them or finding loving homes for them. She loved watching birds out of her window, and spent many hours feeding and watching her regular flock of friends including blue jays, robins, sparrows, and a special feeder for her hummingbirds. She enjoyed making regular trips with her children and later her grandchildren to the Canyonlands, mainly Bryce Canyon where her father had been employed in his younger years. In later years she enjoyed planting her flowers each spring and spent many hours watching them grow.
She was a very strong, independent woman who took care of her own mother in her declining years, and also provided support and strength for her family and friends. Many thanks to the support of Alpine Hospice in Salt Lake for the care they provided before her passing (Cathy, Camilla, and Molly), and Sara from Alpine Home and Healthcare in Provo for her many years of dedication and caring.
Jean has requested a simple graveside service that will be held at East Lawn Cemetary, interment by Berg Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Susan G.
